Kitagawa offers the DL series Dual Lock power chuck as its latest innovation in rotational workholding. The radial guideway power chuck features no jaw lifting and Z axis repeatability near zero.
Because traditional workholding solutions for length control involve some form of “pull back” chuck, jaw stroke length is typically compromised, the company says. Common approaches may sometimes interfere with the Z axis loading of the workpiece. The company took these factors into consideration when developing the product. Its chuck actuates and clamps the workpiece using traditional radial actuation. During the second part of the actuation, as the chuck develops gripping force, the DL chuck performs a final axial, Z axis pull-back movement to a fixed stop. This customized two-step actuation promotes accurate length control and favorable axial repeatability, the company says. The chucks feature wide gripping diameters, for both ID and OD gripping. The chucks are sealed to keep dust particles out and lubrication in. They allow for seating confirmation and can be used in automation lines.
The series power chuck is available in 6" and 8" sizes and accepts conventional serrated jaws.
