ABB Robotics is offering a software, maintenance and robotics training (SMART) education package to qualifying schools in order to promote interest and enthusiasm for STEM subjects among students. The SMART package enables teachers and professors to obtain robotics training and become certified to teach robotics courses at their schools.
ABB Robotics instructors train teachers and professors through a curriculum that includes courses as well as hands-on robotics training at the ABB training center in Auburn Hills, Mich. Teachers can begin the process with little or no robotics experience and complete the program based on their individual schedules. After completing the training, participants must pass a certification exam in order to teach courses to students at their schools, with curriculum and course outlines and materials provided by ABB. In addition, training cells are offered to the participants’ schools at a reduced cost. The cell includes a six-axis ABB IRB 120 industrial robot on a self-contained mobile cart, an ABB IRC5 robot controller and 50 seats of ABB’s RobotStudio programming software. A portion of the package may qualify for government STEM subsidies, according to the company.
