Esab Welding & Cutting Products (Annapolis Junction, Maryland) will acquire the welding wire operations of Sandvik Materials Technology. The deal includes production units in Sandviken, Sweden, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, as well as the global sales and product management organization.
With the addition of Sandvik’s portfolio of solid welding wire and rods, flux-cored wire, stick electrodes, strip electrodes, flux, thermal spray wire and weld finishing chemical products, Esab will increase its ability to meet customer needs. Revenues for Sandvik’s welding wire business amounted to $55 million in 2016, and the business employs approximately 120 people.
“We are excited by the opportunity to better serve customers with a broader and enhanced portfolio of stainless steel and nickel filler metals,” says Shyam Kambeyanda, President of Esab.
Esab expects the acquisition to be completed in two to four months. Sandvik customers, distributors and suppliers will continue to conduct business as usual during the integration.
