Toyoda’s GC20Mi-63 is a compact, high-speed, high-precision cBN camshaft grinder delivering a cost-competitive machining experience. The machine features direct-drive and cartridge spindle technology and is said to be the only cam lobe grinder with an NC quill workhead, completing rotational adjustments and profiles with high accuracy.
Developed for the automotive industry, the machine features a linear motor slide designed to improve chasing. The concave profile cam lobe grinder includes a single wheelhead that enables quick response due to the static pressure slideway and the linear motor drives, protecting the machine from lost motion and backlash.
A highly responsive wheelhead mechanism and servo system enables consistent, accurate grinding, compared with a competitive static thread feeder. The optional cBN wheel maximizes grinding efficiency while operators can easily drive the process through Toyoda GC50 controls.
The JTEKT original Toyoda Stat Bearing sits at the heart of the machine. The rigid, hybrid-type bearing structure is said to eliminate metal-to-metal contact, while achieving high vibration dampening capacity and long service. The amount of grinding removal per rotation of the cam’s work spindle is maintained by adoption of a work spindle stepless speed control, reducing grinding and non-grinding time.
