Tungaloy has introduced the AH905 grade and HMM-type chipbreaker, specifically designed to optimize turning in high-temperature alloys. The AH905 PVD-coated turning inserts feature a cemented carbide substrate that balances hardness and toughness, the company says. This substrate is resistant to high temperatures and promotes chipping resistance for turning super alloys. The coating layer offers high adhesion strength and smoothness to provide higher oxidation resistance. The wear-resistant coating combined with the substrate offers stable, long tool life.
The HMM chipbreaker features a large rake angle and protrusions that reduce the cutting forces and contact area between rake face and chips. These features are said to direct heat into the chip, preventing adhesion of chips to the cutting edge and reducing damage such as notch wear or sudden fractures.
