Iscar introduces three new chipformers for finishing medium and rough turning of steel: the F3P, M3P and R3P. The chipformer designs, combined with Iscar’s Sumotec grades, are said to provide improved workpiece quality, higher productivity, longer tool life and more reliable performance. According to Iscar, the turning inserts and chipformers generate less heat and avoid the problem of chips attaching themselves to cutting tools and components. Chips are broken down into smaller pieces, preventing them from tangling around the workpiece and enabling more efficient removal from conveyor belts. The inserts are suitable for the majority of turning tasks and can accommodate a range of materials, the company says.
The F3P is a double-sided insert with chipbreaker for steel finishing applications. It is capable of 0.40 to 2.0 mm depth of cut and 0.05 to 0.25 mm/rev. The M3P chipbreaker for medium machining of steel has an application range of 0.5 to 6 mm depth of cut and 0.15 to 0.60 mm/rev. The R3P chipbreaker for rough machining of steel offers a machining range from 4.0 to 12 mm depth of cut and 0.4 to 1.0 mm/rev. All three chipbreakers feature reinforced cutting edges and positive-rake angles for smooth cutting and reduced cutting forces.
