The Chiron Group’s FZ 16 S five-axis machining center with tilting rotary table is designed for aviation sector requirements. To increase speed, the machine is equipped with high-performance motors, two Y-axis drives, and fast spindle startup and braking. A axes, C axes and direct drives are said to enable the machine to provide precise multi-axis motion and smooth acceleration for machining aerospace components.
With these features, the machine can be used to mill aerospace blisks, turbine blades and complex parts from high alloy and exotic metals such as titanium, Inconel and stainless steels, the company says. The ability to produce finished parts rapidly in a single setup saves cycle time and avoids the need for secondary operations.
The base material is a vibration-damping, stable concrete that is less heat-sensitive when compared to cast iron or steel weldments. The company states that the gantry-style construction versus a C frame provides greater stability for heavier cuts and rapid axis positioning.
