The Sinumerik 828D family of CNCs from Siemens includes the 828D Basic T and 828D Basic M controllers. The Sinumerik 828D Basic T for turning machines combines CNC, PLC, operator pane and axis control for five axes or spindles, including live tooling. Milling and drilling operations are possible, both for face and peripheral surfacing. The CNC offers 80-bit accuracy for precise contour control during operation. The “animated elements” function enables faster visualization of established cutting cycles. The Sinumerik 828D Basic M for milling machines features improved axis and spindle dynamics within a broad speed bandwidth, as well as many of the benefits of the Basic T version.

All CNCs in the 828D family are offered with the Siemens’ Sinumerik Operate graphic interface platform as well as the ShopMill and ShopTurn programming options. An “easy message” feature enables status monitoring via text message. Depending on the recipient's profile settings, the machine tool can transmit workpiece machining status, tool condition and machine maintenance bulletins in order to minimize machine downtime. USB, Compact Flash (CF) card and Ethernet ports enable high-speed data transfers onto storage media or integration of the control system into corporate data networks.
