Northfield Precision Instrument offers a special internal-grip collet chuck for balancing drive shafts. The collet on this chuck is ground to grip the pitch diameter of the splined C.V. joints of a drive shaft assembly. The “cone” has three stop pads for axial location. Tapped holes on the outer diameter are used to balance the chuck assembly prior to production. According to the company, repeatability is less than 0.0002" TIR.
