Mitsubishi Materials’ WSX445 double-sided, insert-type face milling cutter is designed to improve cutting performance by balancing high efficiency and low cutting forces. A double-sided, Z-geometry insert provides a sharp cutting edge with low cutting resistance, similar to both conventional positive-rake and negative-rake inserts. These lower axial cutting forces and radial cutting forces are said to increase rigidity, lower vibration and improve performance with reduced horsepower consumption. The negative insert design is said to help prevent adhesion to the cutter body by discharging chips.
The company offers multiple grades of inserts including the MP6100 series for (P-class) steels, MP7100 series for (M-class) stainless steels and MP9100 series for (S-class) high-temperature alloys. The Tough-Σ Technology design, a multi-layered coating based with AlTiCrN, is said to provide high-efficiency cutting with longer tool life and reduced thermal cracking in the P-, M- and S-class grade groups.
Additionally, the company offers an MC5020 (K-class) grade for cast iron. This grade is designed to provide wear resistance, reduced thermal cracking and minimized chipping, which is common when machining ductile cast iron, the company says. TF15, an uncoated grade, is offered in a precision-ground insert for aluminum cutting.
