Emuge Corp. has expanded its Softsynchro tap holder line, adding two new holder series. Made with two separate, precision-ground sections (the body and shank) the holder’s design is said to increase tool life and performance by reducing axial forces, improving thread quality in the process. The tap holders are designed for a range of applications and can handle tap sizes ranging from #0 to 1" and M2 to M30. New sizes include Softsynchro 0 for sizes ranging from #2 to #10 and M2 to M8; and the Softsynchro 4 for sizes ranging from ⁷/₁₆" to 1" and M12 to M30.

These holders feature elastomer springs that separate the spindle from the tap, absorbing excessive axial forces and compensating for small errors in the machining process. Torque from the spindle is transferred seamlessly to the tap via ball bearings riding in precision-ground grooves. These ball grooves minimize rolling friction on the torque transmission balls to ensure micro-correction of lead errors in a rigid tapping cycle, even under the most demanding machining conditions, the company says. The holders are also equipped with coolant-through capability.

According to Emuge, the Softsynchro modular system eliminates the need to purchase different holders for each application. Instead, less-costly adapters can accommodate changing applications, which saves costs while still delivering the performance and coolant-through capability of the tap holder.
