Motoman’s MA3100 “Master Arc” welding robot features an extended-reach arm that is said to reduce the need for tracks. Available in floor-, wall- or ceiling-mounted configurations as well as multiple robot layouts, the robot reduces welding cycle time using Sigma-5 motor control and Advanced Robot Motion (ARM) control.
 
The robot has a 6.6-lb (3-kg) payload, 122.9" (3,121 mm) horizontal reach, 221.1" (5,615 mm) vertical reach and ±0.006" (±0.15 mm) repeatability. Its integrated through-the-arm cabling is said to eliminate interference, simplify programming and reduce cable wear. Welding utilities (gas hose and feeder signals) can be routed through the robot base. The robot is suited for use in work cells with larger workpieces, as well as for applications that require access to parts in tight spots or those with possible interference from fixtures.
 
The robot uses a dynamic, next-generation DX100 controller that features multiple-robot-control technology designed to handle multiple tasks and control as many as eight robots (72 axes), I/O devices and communication protocols. The controller uses a Windows CE programming pendant with color touchscreen. Also available is menu-driven arc welding software. Digital welding interfaces are supported for Miller Auto-Axcess and other brands of power sources. The energy-saving controller is said to feature quick processing speeds for smooth interpolation, advanced robot arm motion, built-in collision avoidance, quick I/O response and accelerated Ethernet communication.
