Dillon’s jaw forming rings are intended to serve as easy-to-use tools enabling the precise machining of soft jaws for firmer workpiece clamping. These jaw rings provide uniform pressure on all jaws for a consistent bore. Machining the jaws at the same clamping pressure used to hold parts yields higher accuracy, the company says. The rings are available in adjustable or specific chuck-diameter styles, both with a no-tools attachment. Jaw forming rings are available for 5", 6", 8", 10" and 12" power chucks, or in adjustable versions for chucks ranging from 5" to 8", 6" to 10", and 8" to 12". Self-centering action provides equal pressure on all jaws.
According to the company, the jaw forming ring compensates for “jaw lift,” even in worn chucks, which results in better part concentricity. The device is said to promote the machining of a jaw surface true to the machine centerline, reducing setup times and increasing uptime for running machined parts.
