Vollmer's Vgrind 160 five-axis grinding machine was designed to produce solid carbide tools ranging from 2 to 20 mm in diameter, in conjunction with multi-layer machining. With the grinding wheel set at the C-axis pivot point, workpieces can be machined on two vertically configured grinding spindles for high precision and reduced machining times because of shorter linear-axis travel distances.
Intended to solve problems related to fixed and floating bearings, the vertical spindle arrangement features an effective cooling concept for high thermal stability, power and precision, the company says. Six HSK-50 tool positions are available for the grinding wheel sets for increased flexibility, and both grinding spindles can be loaded with different tools.
The grinding machine features a rigid polymer concrete construction with optimal accessibility, including a height-adjustable control panel and optimal view of the machining rooms. The NumrotoPlus 3D workpiece and machine simulation software provides collision monitoring. The machine can be optionally equipped with workpiece automation to supply as many as 550 workpieces in conjunction with the pallet magazine. Additional accessories include flexible automation options for tool supply, tool automation for both grinding spindles, direct motors or belt drives, linear scales for greater precision, steady rests for counter pressure during tool grinding, and a disc probe for tool measurement.
