The 7792VXE16 high-feed shell mill cutter from ATI Stellram is designed to increase material removal rates in titanium and other difficult-to-machine materials, including nickel-, cobalt- and titanium-based alloys. Designed for both modern and older equipment, the milling tool directs cutting forces axially into the spindle to reduce spindle wear and improve machining stability.
 
The face mill can take repeated, shallow cuts at high feed rates, which is said to increase metal removal and reduce component costs. In addition, the tool is capable of pocketing, slotting and plunging operations.
 
The tool’s four-edged cutter, which is available in a variety of grades, is designed to improve tool economy. Grade X500, a member of the company’s X-Grade carbide insert family, is designed for tough applications in nickel-, cobalt-, titanium-based and titanium alloys. Another X-Grade insert, Grade X400, is designed for tough applications in steels and materials as hard as 53 HRc. Grade SP6519 combines a tough substrate with TiAlN super nano coating for high-temperature alloys and stainless steels. Grade SC3025 combines a tough substrate and a wear-resistant CVD coating to enhance performance in difficult cast iron applications. It is equally suited for both grey and ductile cast irons.
