The high-precision Jupiter 125 machine from Junker enables both straight and angular plunge cut grinding using the centerless grinding method. According to the company, centerless grinding is the fastest cylindrical grinding method, but setting up or retooling centerless machines can be complicated and time-consuming—problems its grinder is said to avoid.
The machine’s grinding wheelhead is rigid and has just one in-feed axis, the company says. The regulating wheelhead can be pivoted horizontally and the work rest blade is fixed permanently on it. During grinding, the regulating wheel presses the part against the grinding wheel profile at an angle, making it possible to grind highly complex parts with multiple recesses, the company says. The work rest blade can also be adjusted during the grinding process. For example, it’s possible to set a different height for rough grinding and for finish grinding.
The machine features an automatic position calculating function to ease setup. The calculation takes place in the machine based on logical parameters, and the axes are aligned according to input values. After each dressing cycle, the new height is calculated automatically, and the grinding wheel is adjusted accordingly. Process reliability is increased and remains constant throughout the entire series, the company says.
Possible applications include fuel-injection technology and precise transmission parts that include shoulders and radius transitions with high-precision specifications.
