Absolute Machine Tools’ You Ji HMC-1000BP combines boring mill features with a 77,000-lb, moving saddle design HMC. A box-in-box structure confines spindle movement inside the column casting, which reduces moving mass and to allow faster acceleration and rapid rates. The design promotes thermal symmetry and eliminates thermal distortion, the company says.
Linear slideways in the X and Y axes and a square ram in the Z axis provide heavy-duty cutting performance. The machine features rapid traverse rates of 787 ipm in the X and Y axes and 630 ipm in the Z and W axes. Other features include large, pretensioned ballscrews with dual ballscrews in the X axis and large Fanuc servomotors. Pretensioning of the ballscrews virtually eliminates any thermal expansion of the screws, the company says.
The standard 4.72″ (120-mm) diameter air-cooled spindle is driven by a two-speed ZF gearbox and 35-hp Fanuc spindle motor. The spindle is housed in an 8.66" × 8.66" (220- × 220-mm) square ram that extends 27.5" in the W axis.
The B-axis rotary table is standard with a square (1,000- × 1,000-mm) table and 0.001 degree, fourth-axis contouring ability. The fourth-axis indexing unit employs a precision worm gear and worm wheel for accuracy and repeatability. Although a two-pallet, side-by-side pallet changer is standard, the machine can be ordered without the pallet system. Other standard equipment includes high-pressure flood coolant, a coolant shower, a 40-tool ATC (60-, 80- and 120-tool ATCs are optional), a spindle cooler, rigid tapping and a complete chip removal system.
