Standard features of SNK America’s Prodigy GT-27 gang tool lathe include a C-axis spindle; a polymer base, which can reduce vibration, improve surface finish and extend tool life by as much as 40 percent; and precision components for small-parts turning.

The lathe uses three axes of motion, which can be commanded in absolute or incremental modes. The C-axis spindle allows for indexing and positioning, as well as advanced functions including interpolation and polar coordinate milling.
According to the company, precision and versatility is achieved by incorporating non heat-generating collet closers, and can also be attributed to the absence of a turret and full C-axis indexing positioning. The lathe can index in 0.01-degree increments. As a result, live tooling can be used for side drilling and milling operations, performing simple and complex operations relatively easily, the company says.

Other features include spindle speeds as high as 6,000 rpm and a GE Fanuc controller (with the inclusion of brushless digital servo drives).
