Prima North America says three recent orders illustrate different configurations of its Laserdyne 795 multi-axis laser system. One order calls for the system to be equipped with a CO2 laser and the S94P controller, which integrates all laser commands, motion and process sensing. The system will also be equipped with a 3D camera inspection system, with the buyer intending to laser-etch chemical milling maskant. For this application, the system has speeds ranging to 800 ipm with accuracies ranging to 0.001". The integrated camera creates a record verifying the etch accuracy on the finished part.

Another order calls for a 1.5-kW fiber laser. This system will be used for cutting aerospace materials. The third order calls for a CL50k laser system to be used in the drilling of effusion cooling holes in aerospace components. Of interest here is the capability to produce shaped holes with a single laser configuration, the company says.
