Iscar is expanding its Millshred family of tools with three new inserts. For machining stainless steel, the company offers the RCMT 1206-FW-T20. The RCMT 1206-FW-F20 is suited for machining stainless steel, aluminum and high-temperature alloys. Finally, the RCCT 1206MO is for machining low alloy steel, stainless steel and high-temperature alloys.
This style of cutter can carry a serrated cutting edge insert as well as traditional, round inserts. Both inserts have a protruding cylinder on the bottom with locating flats designed for precise indexing and positioning of the insert in the cutter body. The serrated insert has four indexing orientation options, while the round insert has eight.
This cutter is designed to mill deep cavities. Typically, performing this operation with long tool overhang can cause vibration and instability as well as problems with chip evacuation, the company says. The cutter鈥檚 serrated, non-continuous cutting edge is designed to overlap for a cutter configuration that produces smaller chips. Producing smaller chips reduces the tendency for chips to be re-cut. Chip evacuation is improved, prolonging the life of the cutter and inserts and improving workpiece finish.
The ERW Millshred endmills include tools in sizes of 1", 1.25" and 1.5" with straight and tapered shanks as well as with the Flexfit threaded connection. In addition, all ERW tools have coolant holes.
