Samchully Workholding’s HCWF-55 2+2 power chuck is intended as an alternative to four-jaw self-centering chucks for holding rectangular workpieces such as large forgings and castings, where a standard four-jaw chuck would only touch the workpiece with two jaws. Each of the chuck’s jaw pairs are independent and activated by a double piston cylinder. A double-wedge hook clamping system ensures stronger clamping on large, heavy workpieces and a long service life, Samchully says.

The chuck is equipped with slots and rails for mounting boring mill jaws, enabling its use  in three different configurations: as a four-jaw, 2+2 power chuck; as a four-jaw independent manual chuck; or as an eight-jaw combination power/manual chuck. Each pair’s power stroke is 24 mm (0.94") in diameter. These combinations allow the HCWF chuck to grip a large variety of part sizes and shapes, including round, tubular, square, rectangular and oval-shaped workpieces in sizes ranging from under 18" to 55". For irregular castings and forgings, each power jaw requires a manual adjustment of 40 mm (1.57") to compensate. The manual adjustment of the boring mill jaws is 60 mm (2.36") per jaw. It can generate 47,200 lbs of gripping force for large workpieces. The chuck is well-sealed against entry of coolant, chips and swarf into the chuck body, making it ideal for operation on vertical turning lathes, the company says.
