The Schunk Vero-S quick-change pallet toolbox features functional components made of hardened stainless steel, including the base body, clamping pin and clamping slide. The system’s dual clamping stroke and integrated turbo function provide a 9,000-lb retention force, which enables increased cutting forces and rigidity. The quick-change pallet system is self-locking via a large spring package and clamps with a form-fit. It can achieve holding forces ranging to 16,800 lbs. A pneumatic pressure of 6 bars (85 psi) is sufficient for opening the module, the company says.

 
The system clamps workpieces, pallets, clamping stations, existing fixtures and tombstones with one or more clamping pins. The radial-aligned clamping slides of the quick-change pallet system pull in the clamping pin and lock it. Exact positioning is accomplished via a short taper, and radial location is done via a diamond pin. This is said to achieve a repeat accuracy of at least 5 µm (0.0002").
 
The module is completely sealed and protected against the penetration of chips, dust and coolant, and is virtually maintenance-free, the company says. An air-purge connection, which can be used for part recognition, is integrated into the standard module. The position of the clamping slide can also be monitored via an air-purge monitoring system. The module is equipped with bottom and lateral air connections for flexible mountings.
 
The system is designed to be compatible and interchangeable with the company’s previous pallet system and the clamping pins work universally across the new line. Workpieces can be transferred from machine to machine or to a CMM accurately and seamlessly on the fly.
