Rheintacho’s rotational speed sensor, the Rheintacho FE, includes one-channel, two-channel and PWM-signal output sensors installation-compatible with highly compact housings. The one-channel sensor is the ideal choice for measuring rotational speed. The company says that the sensor’s components ensure high-tolerance contact behavior with all types of target geometries and air gaps. The output signal is a square wave, its amplitude independent of the rotational speed, achieving stable signals even at slow rotational speeds.
With its two phase-shifted square wave signals, the two-channel solution offers the same advantages. However, the two offset signals also identify the direction of rotation. In contrast to the other voltage signals, the two-channel construction with pulse-width modulated signal (PWM) works using a current signal, with rotational direction information transmitted via the varying lengths of the pulses. This sensor also produces a signal with constant amplitude, independent of the rotational speed. It not only enables identification of the rotational direction; it can also carry out other diagnostic functions such as the identification of idle status, a critical air gap and critical installation position.
