According to the company, ER collets are designed to mechanically seal by virtue of the rear slots terminating prior to the annular groove. This completely blocks the path of coolant flow to the front of the collet. Using a collet that is perfectly matched to the cutting tool diameter ensures full surface contact. This increases gripping force, accuracy and tool life while providing quality surface finishes and less vibration, the company says.
