Ceratizit’s MaxiMill 491 milling system provides eight cutting edges per insert along with easy handling. This shoulder-milling system produces profiles of exactly 90 degrees, the company says. Inserts in the Blackstar and Silverstar grades are said to make the tooling system highly economical. Overall tool-change times are reduced since the system is suitable for both roughing and finishing, and the new insert seat design simplifies quick insert changes. The company says that the inserts achieve high axial and radial runout, long tool life, and high-quality surface finishes. Their irregular pitch and optimally adapted approach angles reduce vibration and smooth the cut with low power consumption.
