The Planomat 408 HP is a surface and profile grinding system that is useful for high-volume applications.
Specifications include a grinding range of 800 mm × 400 mm; a table clamping areaÌýof 1,200 mm × 400 mm; and a grinding wheel that is 400 mm × 80 mm × 127 mm. The 18 kW variable speed main spindle achieves speeds as high as 6,000 rpm
Of special interest are the Siemens 840 D control and the split splashguard configuration, which keeps the doors open, thus, allowing the operator to exchange parts while the machine goes through the dress cycle. Also, the work area is entirely enclosed to contain high-pressure coolant. A GE Fanuc 18i control is also available.
The company says that the linear guideways in all axes have six-row and four-row roller bearing systems that provide stick-free positioning.
