Kaast Machine Tools’ saddle-style F-Grind AH series high precision surface grinder is said to accommodate workpieces ranging from 5.8" × 17.5" to 15.5" × 31", depending on the model. It features hardened, ground and PTFE-coated table guideways. It also features a double-V guide for transverse movements and combined flat and V guides for longitudinal movements.
Spindle motors are available with up to 7.5 hp and speeds ranging to 2,900 rpm. The class-P4 high-precision angular contact bearing is said to provide runout accuracy better than 2 microns. The cartridge-type spindle is completely sealed and lubricated, providing high-accuracy grinding and a long service life, says the company. The vertical feed moves in 0.01-mm (0.0004") increments. The transverse feed moves in 0.02-mm (0.0008") increments. Automatic downfeed from 0.001 to 0.999 mm (0.00004" to 0.04") is said to ensure a smooth finish.
Users can add an optional AD5 automatic downfeed system to enable fully automated three-axis grinding. The optional AD5 NC decreases vertical feed increments to 0.005 mm (0.0002").
