Kennametal says the Beyond inserts for its FixPerfect system are designed for toughness and wear-resistance to improve turning productivity and safety. The FixPerfect system features a proprietary pocket shape that combines with a clamping stud, locking pin and tangentially mounted, precision-ground insert to increase clamping forces while decreasing cutting forces. This provides chip control and improves process stability, the company says. The FixPerfect inserts are shaped to match the pocket, which protects unused cutting edges. To index the insert, the FixPerfect pin needs to be loosened, not removed, which also improves productivity.
The inserts feature micro-polished edges for improved edge toughness, a proprietary post-coat treatment to reduce depth-of-cut notching, and a fine-grain alumina layer to enhance coating integrity at higher cutting speeds.
Five Beyond grades are available for FixPerfect with either two, four, or eight cutting edges. A variety of geometries, lead angles and rake angles enable users to improve chip control and process stability in roughing, medium machining and finishing, the company says.
