Workpieces as large as 100 mm in diameter can be completely machined on Emag’s VL 2 P, a two-spindle vertical turning machine. Complete machining is possible in two setups using a variety of technologies, such as vertical turning, milling, drilling, and so on. The machine is equipped with two spindles working in pendulum mode, that is, while the first spindle holds the workpiece during the machining process, the second spindle utilizes the pick-up method to automatically load itself with raw parts. This ensures that the next raw part is always ready for vertical turning (machining). After completion of the vertical turning operation on the first component, the turret swings (like a pendulum) to the second spindle. This results in extremely short chip-to-chip times, the company says.
Chuck diameter is 160 mm. Maximum part swing is 200 mm. X-axis travel is 380 mm and Z axis travel is 660 mm. The machine has a small footprint and compact design, which helps decrease chip-to-chip time. The machine body is made of polymer concrete and features a vertical design which ensures chip flow.
