Haas Automation, Inc.’s latest addition to its line of Super Speed VMCs, the VF-6SS is designed for high-volume production and other applications in which high speed and short cycle times are crucial. It comes standard with 64"ÌýxÌý32"ÌýxÌý30" travels and a 12,000-rpm, 40-taper spindle that uses an inline direct-drive system to couple the motor directly to the spindle.Ìý
Ìý
This direct-drive system is said to yield a minimal amount of vibration, heat and noise, providing good surface finishes, thermal stability and quiet operation. The spindle’s 30-hp vector dual-drive system provides low-end torque, as well as the speed necessary for high speed machining operations. On-the-fly wye-delta switching provides a constant-horsepower band.
Ìý
Also included is a 24-pocket side-mount toolchanger, which changes tools in 1.6 seconds. To reduce cycle times and keep non-machining time to a minimum, the machine incorporates high-pitch ballscrews and high-torque servomotors for rapids of 1,200Ìýipm on the Y and Z axes, and 900 ipm on the X axis. Other features developed to increase productivity are an automatic chip auger system, programmable coolant nozzle, floppy disk drive, 1-MB program memory, visual quick code programming and a remote jog handle.
Ìý
A 40-pocket side-mount toolchanger, 1,000-psi through-spindle coolant, 4th- and 5th-axis capabilities and 16-MB program memory are among the selection of optional features.
