Makino’s F-series of vertical machining centers includes the F8 and F9 models for large production parts. The machines are designed for precision and versatility in large parts and die and mold component production. The F8’s X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 51.2" × 31.5" × 25.6", respectively. The VMC features a 61" × 31.5" worktable and accommodates a maximum workpiece size of 61" × 31.5" × 21.7". The X-, Y- and Z-axis travels on the F9 measure 63" × 31.5" × 25.6", respectively. The machine features a 72.8" × 31.5" worktable and accommodates a maximum workpiece size of 72.8" × 31.5" × 21.7".
Both machines offer a load capacity of 5,510 lbs and feature a 30-tool automatic toolchanger. A49.6-hp, 10,000-rpm CAT 50 spindle is standard with an HSK-A100 spindle interface available as an option. The combination provides 315 foot-pounds of torque for lower-speed roughing operations. A 40.2-hp, 20,000-rpm HSK-A63 spindle is also available.
A dual sliding door, chip- and splash-guard construction simplifies loading and unloading large workpieces. The open-corner, open-ceiling design offers access for setups and change-overs, improving work-in-progress and overall lead times. The standard coolant system provides a combination of nozzle flood coolant, flush coolant, through-spindle air and an external air-blow nozzle. Dual internal spiral-chip conveyors move chips and coolant to the rear of the machine and discharge them into a scraper-drum lift-up chip conveyor.
Both machining centers feature the company’s Professional 5 control, which offers a Windows CE graphical user interface with touchscreen, and can be equipped with Makino’s Super Geometric Intelligence (SGI.4) software for high-feed rate, tight-tolerance machining of 3D contoured shapes.
