Sodick’s VZ500LH was designed to meet the need for wire EDMs with large height capacity for die/mold, aerospace and energy applications producing parts such as turbine hubs, aerofoil vanes, instrument panels and mold cores. The EDM features a 17.2" Z-axis cutting capacity and rigid linear motor drive technology to ensure accuracy. Additional features include a Super-Jet high-speed automatic wire threader (AWT), wire tip disposal unit, anti-electrolysis circuit and dielectric cooling unit.
The EDM’s control incorporates collision protection, which constantly monitors axis load to prevent operator error. When voltage exceeds a predetermined limit, the machine will stop and give the operator an error message. The control also features automatic machining condition selection, a database within the machine that contains details on the best conditions for a particular wire diameter, workpiece material or workpiece thickness and ensures the best possible machining results. Operators can utilize the database’s extensive preloaded conditions or add their own conditions to suit unusual applications.
