Chiron America’s five-axis FZ08MT Precision+ machining center is said to enable complex, five-axis parts to be machined in a single setup from bar stock without the need for additional finishing.
The FZ08MT features a primary swivel-head spindle, turning spindle and counter spindle for reverse-turning or simultaneous five-axis machining. Multiple tasks, such as milling, turning and drilling, can be consolidated into one compact unit, the company says.
The main spindle incorporates a direct torque drive with a B-axis swivel range of -10 to +100 degrees, delivering speeds as fast as 54,000 rpm. The swivel head is designed to ensure that the tool center point remains constant, without movement in the X and Z axes. Additionally, full turning as fast as 8,000 rpm is achieved with the turning spindle, which accommodates bar diameters as large as 42 mm. The integrated counter spindle enables continuous, simultaneous 5-axis work during the machining process.
The machine offers XYZ-axis travels of 210 × 200 × 360 mm and ATC easy-access loading gate is capable of holding up to 96 tools and with a chip-to-chip time of 2.1 sec.
