Advanced Coating Technologies (ACT) offers more than 30 types of PVD coatings for die molds and injection molds, as well as custom coatings for more specialized requirements. In addition to corrosion and wear resistance, the company says that PVD-coated die-mold parts possess a lower coefficient of friction for easier release. PVD coating also extends the life of parts, eases demolding, reduces residues and the need for polishing, and increases fluidity of forming material to improve forming performance.
Meanwhile, PVD-coated injection molds can reduce wear from abrasive melts, extending the life of the mold as well as promoting shorter cycle times to reduce unit cost and increase productivity. Additionally, PVD coating reduce release force of “sticking” to eliminate the need for release agents while making the mold easier to clean. Other benefits include improved injection pressure, melt flow and mold filling, which reduces sink marks and other surface flaws.
