Electrox has developed a system for marking arrays of small items loaded in a jig. With this system, customers can achieve rapid setup time, minimize waste and increase throughput.
The system uses a through-the-lens camera to automatically ensure every item is marked in the same position and in the same direction, irrespective of the orientation of the part in the array.
The camera is integrated in the marking head of a laser with a set of optics that aligns the center of its lens on the same axis as that of the laser marking lens.
When marking a variety of parts, the system can use data from an external source, such as a database, to identify the correct jig for the part to be marked, the designated camera lighting scheme, the reference image of the part, the appropriate laser marking files and the correct focusing height for the laser.
The through-the-lens solution can be applied to virtually any laser system and configured in virtually any laser workstation, the company says.
