Laser Marking Of Challenging Materials
The EV4G green laser system is suited for marking and processing challenging materials such as silicon, colored plastics, acrylic and polymers used in the electronics, semiconductor packaging, solar and medical industries. This fiber-coupled, diode-pumped, air-cooled solid-state (DPSS) laser system produces a more than 4W laser beam (TEMoo mode) at a 532-nm wavelength. In addition, the system is optimized for a stable performance from low- to high-power levels to handle a variety of applications and materials.

The compact TF420 fiber laser marking unit is said to provide high-contrast 2D data matrix codes, logos, bar codes and human-readable text at high speeds. Considered a universal marking solution, the unit is capable of printing on difficult materials, such as cast aluminum and carbide, while maintaining the precision to mark consumer products such as cellular telephones and medical devices. The compact marking head is completely sealed and enclosed in a protective cast aluminum case allowing the system to be mounted in virtually any orientation.

Control Micro Systems’turnkey laser systems can mark, cut and strip wire or cable in one operation. Multiple-gage wire/cable can be marked, stripped and cut in a fully automatic, high-speed, computer-controlled operation.  These systems are said to provide permanent, high-contrast surface marks on virtually all insulations specified in SAE aerospace standards.

The Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF) is Japan’s most important machine tool show. The 2008 show reinforced the trends observed at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) that took place in Chicago two months earlier. Along with a review of the show, this article summarizes editorial visits to two new machine tool factories. The report shows that Japan continues to be a dynamic force in machine design and construction.
