Milling Tools
End Mills For Large-Volume Machining
Developed in conjunction with major aircraft builders, Emuge鈥檚 Alu-Jet-Cut solid carbide end mills are designed for rapid, large-volume aluminum machining in mold and die, aerospace, automotive and machine tool manufacturing applications. The company says the tools are particularly useful for machining monolithic airframe structural components, which often require removal of as much as 95 percent of the weight of a solid block of material. The end mills are capable of cutting speeds in excess of 3,000 sfm.

SGS Tool Company鈥檚 Z-Carb-AP variable rake end mill offers three stages of chatter suppression resulting in a quiet, stable milling operation. In stage one, unequal flute spacing disrupts the rhythmic pattern created by the cutting edge of common end mills. This suppresses the development of damaging harmonics.

Valenite has added the V560 heavy-duty, roughing face mill to its general purpose Penta family of five-sided, face milling cutters. The 0. 400" depth-of-cut capability allows for machining under the tough outer layer of forge or cast workpieces, reducing insert wear compared to smaller inserts, the company says.

A line of high-performance end mills for aluminum materials consists of two- and three-flute tools for roughing and finishing applications. This line, manufactured by Onsrud Cutter, also includes a selection of corner radii and neck and flute lengths. The large 鈥渟weet spot鈥 of the tools allows for virtually chatter-free machining at high rpm and on heavy cuts.
